Animal Physiology

Welcome to the Department of Animal Physiology
Our Department is dedicated to understanding fundamental principles of Physiology. The research-driven teaching program addresses how the human body works in health and disease and explores physiological variations in the animal kingdom.
Our scientific agenda is concerned with neurophysiological processes. We study molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity and sensory physiology and investigate the operation of neuronal circuits in the context of social interactions and adaptive behaviour. To this end, we engage neuro- and optogenetic approaches, electrophysiolgy, behavioural analyses, conventional and super-resolution light microscopy. To find out more about our current projects visit the research group pages kittel-lab and stevenson-lab.
